Kolomiya (other spellings Kolomia, Kolomyya) is a city located in Ivano-Frankovsk oblast (region) of Ukraine on the banks of Prut River, administrative center of Kolomiya district. Kolomiya is an important historic and cultural center of Ukraine. Also the city is a major railway center of the region.

Kolomiya Ukraine city history
Kolomiya was first time mentioned in 1240. The territories of the city became the part of Polish state. After third partition of Poland Kolomiya town became the part of Austria-Hungary state. After World War I the city was a part of independent Ukraine for a short time before being captured by Poland again.
During the World War II Kolomiya was a place of Jewish ghetto (about 18,000). In 1943 about 16,000 people from the ghetto were deported to Belzhets concentration camp. Kolomiya city was liberated by Red Army in March, 1944. The city became the part of Ukrainian SSR.
