Konstantinovka (Ukrainian spelling Kostiantynivka) is a city located in Donetsk oblast of Ukraine about 72 km from Donetsk city, the administrative center of Konstantinovsky district. The city is situated in the northern part of the oblast on the river Krivoy Torets. Konstantinovka is an important railway junction of the region.

The population of Konstantinovka city is about 80,000 (2009). The phone code is +380-6272; the postal codes are 85100-85129.

In 1812 on the territory of modern Konstantinovka landlord Nomikosov founded the village Santurinovka where originally settled 20 families. In the mid-XIX century on the land inherited by the son of the landlord appeared Konstantinovka village, named for the owner. By 1859 Konstantinovka village population was 29, the population of Santurinovka was 280.

In 1869 with the construction of the Kursk-Kharkov-Azov railway the railway station was opened near Konstantinovka. In 1880 it was connected with the Kharkov-Sevastopol railway. It was the beginning of industrial development of the region.

In 1895-1897 years glass and chemical factories were built in Santurinovka by Belgian "Anonymous Society of Donetsk Glass and Chemical Factories". In 1899 the mirror factory was constructed there. The total number of employed in the enterprises of the village amounted to 2,500 people. The village Konstantinovka and the village near the railway station became a single municipality. By 1897, the population was about 3,100 people. In 1915 the village had two hospitals, primary school, college, private school.

In the years of rapid industrialization zinc plant was built ("Ukrzinc" today), refractory products plant, large bakery. In the 1930's the ruby stars of Moscow Kremlin, the sarcophagus of the Lenin mausoleum, a crystal fountain for the World Exhibition in New York were produced by the enterprises of Konstantinovka.

In 1932 Konstantinovka settlement received the status of the city. By 1939 its population was 96 thousand people. The city had renovated urban economy, the tram line from the station to the city center was constructed. In 1936 Russian Drama Theatre of A.S.Pushkin was opened. In the years after World War II more than 20 industrial enterprises were built in Konstantinovka city. In 1962 on the base of plant "Autoglass" the Glass Research Institute was established.

Konstantinovka is considered to be the center of the glass industry in Ukraine. There are a number of enterprises and the only Ukrainian Glass Research Institute. The glass from Konstantinovka is sold on the Ukrainian market and also in other countries of Europe.

Konstantinovka iron foundry is equipped with modern lines and mills of western production, its production is in constant demand in Ukraine, Russia, Britain, Poland, Lithuania, Latvia, Belarus, Iran and other countries.

The industry employs more than 40% of the total number employed in the economy of the city. Ukrainian road of national importance H20 runs through Konstantinovka city.

To the south-east of Konstantinovka near the village of Ivanopil is a geological monument of nature Kravetskaya gully. Here the most complete fossil remains of trunks of coniferous trees in various stages of transformation into coal are presented.
