The contamination of the area is not homogeneous, there are some spots that can be dangerous. Here is the
map of the city with the levels of radioactive pollution. If you just follow the common route, the risk is minimal.

It will be possible to repopulate some areas in about 25-30 years but not sure it will be in reality because of numerous reasons like fears of the people, economical necessity etc.
