Eupatoria (other spellings Yevpatoria, Yevpatoriya) is a resort city located in western part of Crimea Republic of Ukraine on the shore of Black Sea. Eupatoria city extends for about 14 km along the shallow Kalamitskiy gulf. Eupatoria beaches are known for their clean and soft golden sand, transparent sea water and gently sloping bottom of the gulf.

The first recorded settlement in present Eupatoria city area was called Kerkinitis. It was built by Greek colonists around 500 BC. Kerkinitis with the rest of Crimea was part of the state of King of Pontus - Mithridates VI (nickname - Eupator).
From 7th to 10th centuries Eupatoria was Khazar settlement. Later Eupatoria settlement was under control of Mongols and Crimean Khanate and named Kezlev. In 1478-1485 Eupatoria town was ruled by Ottoman Empire.
In 1783 Kezlev town (with the whole Crimea) was captured by Russian Empire. The name of the city was officially changed to Eupatoria in 1784. Eupatoria city was occupied by British, French and Turkish troops during Crimean War (1854).
