Brovary is a city situated in Kiev oblast of Ukraine, 12 km from Kiev city. The city name "Brovary" means "brewers" from Ukrainian language.

The settlement was first time mentioned in 1628. That time it was a small village with about 46 peasant families and 68 Cossack families. Peasants were working on land and Cossacks as more well-to-do men were making wine and brew.
In 1817 first postal office was built in Brovary. The population of the town was about 4300 at the end of 19th century. Soviet power was established in Brovary city in 1918. From 1935 Brovary had the central airport of Kiev city (Soviet Ukraine capital). Brovary city was totally destroyed during the World War II.
Modern Brovary city is Ukrainian show making center. The city also plays an important role in developing of Ukrainian sport activity. Several world and Olympic champions were born or began their sport career in Brovary city. There is also a broadcasting center for long- and shortwave at Brovary.
