No comments · Posted by Sergei Rzhevsky in Nature, Regions, Travel
Hoverla (in Romanian “Howarla” means “difficult to pass elevation”) is the highest mountain and the highest point in the territory of Ukraine (2,061 m above sea level). It is located on the border of the Zakarpattia and Ivano-Frankivsk regions, about 17 km from the border with Romania.
It is a popular summer and winter tourism destination. The first tourist route with climbing the mountain was opened in 1880. In the north, you can see the cities of Ivano-Frankivsk Oblast: Ivano-Frankivsk, Kolomyia, and Snyatin. Mount Hoverla on Google Maps. Photos by: Alexey Medvedev.
From the top of Hoverla, Mount Petros (2,020 m) is clearly visible, as well as the White Elephant Observatory on Mount Pip Ivan. The Maramures ridge rises to the southwest of Hoverla. It is the border of Ukraine and Romania.
Most of the ascents to the top of Hoverla begin from the Zaroslyak base, which is located at an altitude of 1,100 m. You can get to the base on foot, by car or bicycle, and the easiest way to do this is from Vorokhta or Verkhovyna.
Two paths lead from the base to the top – one is more gentle, with a total length of 4.3 km, the other is steeper (3.7 km). Starting trekking from the Zaroslyak base, it will not be difficult even for untrained tourists to climb Hoverla in the summer season.
