No comments · Posted by Sergei Rzhevsky in Nature, Photos, Regions
Chornohora is the highest mountain range in the Ukrainian Carpathians located on the border of Zakarpattia Oblast and Ivano-Frankivsk Oblast.
It is especially beautiful here when the slopes of the mountain range are covered with blooming rhododendrons. Chornohora on Google Maps. Photos by: Alexander Kotenko.
Rhododendron myrtifolium, also known as Carpathian rhododendron, grows in Chornohora.
These flowers can be seen in the highlands, on the slopes of mountains such as Pip Ivan, Turkul, Shpitsy, and also in the vicinity of Lake Brebeneskul.
The plant is protected because it grows within the Carpathian Biosphere Reserve. Its flowers emit a pleasant aroma and attract bees.
Rhododendron is a low-growing, creeping evergreen shrub that blooms bright red in June. It grows only on the highest mountain ranges and lasts only three weeks.
Chornohora is the most popular hiking destination in the Carpathians, offering challenging routes and picturesque views popular with tourists.
