More than 30 years passed since the day of the Chernobyl nuclear power plant accident and the “temporary evacuation” of the residents of the town of Pripyat located in the immediate vicinity of the station, about 150 km north of Kyiv.

Over the years, the streets of Pripyat turned into a real forest. It will be another 10 to 15 years and the buildings will collapse massively. Therefore, if you want to visit this unique place, then you should go in the near future because everything will only get worse. Photos by: Alexander Belenkiy.

Chernobyl zone 29 years later

April 26, 2015, the 29th anniversary of the Chernobyl disaster was marked. After these years, Pripyat, the once flourishing city, disappeared beneath dense thickets, the nuclear station ceased its operation.

The New Safe Confinement (also known as the New Shelter, Shelter-2) is an insulating arched structure over the destroyed fourth power unit of Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant in Pripyat. The construction began in 2007 and is expected to be completed in 2017.

The main reason of the construction is that the existing object “Shelter” is short-lived. Under the influence of radiation and weather, it is gradually degraded. And about 200 tons of radioactive materials are still under the sarcophagus.

Graffiti of Pripyat – the ghost town

April 26, 1986, the most devastating accident at the nuclear power plant occurred. As a result, Pripyat, young and thriving Soviet city, was abandoned.

But its life goes on now in other forms – in forms of interesting and unexpected graffiti on the streets of a ghost town. Streets and avenues are almost completely overgrown with trees, the city is gradually destroyed.
