The salt desert near Odessa

Kuyal’nitsky estuary (liman) is an estuary located about 3 km to the north-west of the Black Sea coast (Odessa Bay), 5 km from Odessa. It is separated from the sea by three kilometers of a sand spit.

The lowest point of Ukraine (minus 5 meters above sea level) is located in this area. In the times of the Russian Empire, salt was mined here, and, during the Soviet era, this place was used as an all-Union health resort.

Gorgany Mountains in all its glory

Gorgany is a mountain range located in Outer Eastern Carpathians – the least accessible and least populated part of the Ukrainian Carpathians (Ivano-Frankivsk and Zakarpattia regions).

The name of the mountain range comes from the name of rock slides called “gorgan”. This area is a popular tourist destination. Photo by Yuriy Shevchenko

Misty rural landscapes of the Carpathians

Lazeshchyna is a picturesque village with a population of about four thousand people located in Rakhiv district of Zakarpattia region. In the valley, the river with the same name flows creating amazing mists between rural hills.

This is the perfect place to take pictures – haystacks, lonely houses on the hills, paths in the lush grass, mists and views of the highest peaks of the Carpathians – the mountains Hoverla and Petros. Photos by Alexander Kotenko
