Dzembronya – the most high-altitude village in Ukraine

Dzembronya is a small village located on the steep slopes of Chornohora Ridge in Verkhovyna district of Ivano-Frankivsk region, near the border with Romania. It is the most high-altitude village in Ukraine and probably one of the most picturesque ones.

Despite the fact that the population of Dzembronya is only about 250 people, the length of the village is about 10 km. There are no enterprises, collective farms, industrial facilities here.

Many mountain tourist routes in the Ukrainian Carpathians start in the village. Dzembronya on Google Maps. Photos by: Sergiy Kotko.

I’ve been watching Maria Dmitronyak and her cooking shows. The Carpathian Mountains look like a very beautiful place to live. I live below the Wallowa Mountains in Eastern Oregon. It snows a lot and the growing season is short. The altitude of the valley is about 4000 feet with the mountains about 10,00 feet.

I was smitten by that channel recently, too. I’m starting my evening TV agenda with one of her videos until I run out.

I am in Montpelier, Vermont, USA. Our climate & topography are quite similar even though we are 45° N latitude & about 1600 feet elevation. Although Maria has a professional “day job” and is a well-known feminist, I believe that the portrayals accurately show rural life as it is now and has been in the past. Happy viewing.

Are you sure you are not getting the Maria in the cooking videos mixed up with Maria Dmytriyeva. I was interested to know more about Maria Dmitronyak and have searched the internet but only can find information on her place being a bed and breakfast. It would be interesting to know more about how she came to live in that beautiful peacful setting where she lives.

I pray Maria is ok along with the rest of the beautiful people of the village. Do you have any knowledge if the village is ok because of the 2023 war? Why can’t they leave the peaceful, hard working people that live there alone.
