Chernihiv, first mentioned in 907, is the most northern regional center of Ukraine. The center of the historical region of Severia, it was one of the largest towns of Kievan Rus (882-1240).

Savior Transfiguration Cathedral (1033) – the oldest surviving monument of old Russian architecture, one of the few surviving buildings of the period of pre-Mongol Rus.

Chernihiv Collegium (1700) – the first in the Russian kingdom educational institution of secondary and, subsequently, higher spiritual education, established on the left bank of the Dnieper River. In its heyday, the collegium was a major educational and intellectual center.

Assumption Cathedral (early 12th century) – the main church of the Yelets Dormition Convent.

Cathedral of Boris and Gleb (1120-1123).

St. Catherine’s Church (1715).

Pyatnytska (St. Paraskeva) Church (late 12th – early 13th centuries).

The belltower of the Troitsko-Ilyinsky Monastery (1770s). From the top of it you can enjoy beautiful views of Chernihiv.
