Stare Selo is a village with a population of about 2,100 people located in Lviv Oblast, about 27 km southeast of the center of Lviv. Stare Selo was first mentioned in 1442. In 1498, it was destroyed by the Ottomans, in 1648 – by the Crimean Tatars.
The main attraction of this place is its gradually crumbling castle – an architectural monument of national importance, the largest castle in Lviv Oblast and one of the largest castles in Ukraine. The Stare Selo Castle on Google Maps. Photos by: Maxim Ritus.
The castle occupies a significant area (2 hectares) and is built in the shape of an irregular pentagon close to a triangular shape. It was built by the princes of the Ostrogski family to protect the southeastern routes to Lviv from the raids of the Crimean Tatars in 1584-1589. In 1642-1654, it was rebuilt in the style of the East European Late Renaissance.
In the 19th century, this castle, which had lost its military significance, gradually fell into decay. Its last owner was Count Alfred Potocki until September 1939. The castle continued to collapse, its full restoration was never carried out.
The massive walls of the castle are relatively well preserved. The height of the walls reaches 14-16 meters. Out of six towers, three have survived to this day.

I’m amazed, I have to admit. Seldom do I come across a blog that’s both educative and entertaining, and let me tell you, you’ve hit the nail on the head. The problem is something which not enough folks are speaking intelligently about. I am very happy that I came across this during my search for something regarding this.
