Church of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin in Bairaky

Bairaky is a large village with a population of about 1,800 people located in the southeast of the Chernivtsi region, 29 km from Chernivtsi.

The main attraction of the village is the Church of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin combining the Baroque style and the Galician school of church architecture. Bairaky on Google Maps. Photos by: Maxim Ritus.

This village was first mentioned in documents under the name of Mogashesty in 1633. In 1646, Stefan Holban, the owner of the village, built this church, which became the largest of the rural churches throughout the south-eastern Bukovina. The bell tower (48 meters high) was built in 1848-1851.
