St. Nicholas Church in Sasiv

The wooden church of St. Nicholas in Sasiv village (Zolochevsky district of Lviv region) was built in 1731. Although, according to some sources, it was founded in the 15th century. The church interior is decorated with a beautiful seven-tier iconostasis of the 17th century.
The domes of the church, placed close to each other, are its true ornament. The last restoration of St. Nicholas Church, the monument of architecture of Ukraine, was made in 2008.

The Assumption Cathedral in Bila Krynytsya village

Bila Krynytsya is a small village (170 people) located in Chernivtsi region, 12 km south of Chernivtsi city, near the border with Romania.
This village was the center of the Old Believers in Bukovina. The Cathedral of the Assumption of the Old Believers, built in 1900-1908 by the means of Moscow merchant Gleb Ovsyannikov in honor of his son Alexander, is the main attraction of this place.

The church of St. Michael the Archangel in Komarno

Komarno is a small district town located in the southwestern part of Lviv region. The distance to Lviv is about 45 km.
The town is known for its old wooden church of St. Michael the Archangel, built in 1754. It is one of the finest examples of Galician folk architecture school. The photos were taken by Maxim Ritus.

Unique Beauty of the Church in the Natalevka Estate

Transfiguration Church, built in 1911-1913, is the architectural jewel of “Natalevka” – the former estate of the owner of sugar producing factories Pavel Ivanovich Kharitonenko located in the village Volodymyrivka, Krasnokutsk district, Kharkiv region.
The manor house itself was destroyed during the Soviet era. Nowadays, the manor park is protected as a national monument of landscape architecture.

The Holy Trinity Cathedral of the Pochaev Lavra

The Holy Dormition Pochaev Lavra is an Orthodox monastery located in Pochaev town (Ternopil region). It is the biggest Orthodox church complex and monastery in western Ukraine and the second after the Kiev-Pechersk Lavra.
The Holy Trinity Cathedral was built in the ancient Russian manner in 1906-1912 (architect A.V. Shchusev). The cathedral was laid in 1899, but the construction was resumed only in 1906. Heavy monolithic walls of the cathedral have a minimum of decorations. Photos by av_otus

Perhaps the most unusual church in Ukraine

“Natalievka” is the estate of sugar producer Pavel Ivanovich Kharitonenko founded in the 80s of the 19th century in Vladimirovka village of Kharkov region (about 80 km from Kharkov).
The manor house was destroyed during the Soviet times. The park of the estate with a total area of about 50 hectares is protected as a national monument of landscape architecture.

Kiev-Pechersk Lavra – monastery with thousand-year history

Kiev-Pechersk Lavra is one of the first monasteries founded in Kievan Rus. The monastery was founded in 1051. Today, it is the center of Orthodoxy, one of the most important monasteries of the Christian world.

Nicholas Church – the House of Organ Music in Kiev

The Roman Catholic Church of St. Nicholas in Kiev, which was built in the early 20th century, is used as a house of organ and chamber music from 1980. The building is located at Krasnoarmeyskaya Str., 77.
The church, built in the stylized Gothic forms with high towers and spiers, has slender proportions, and clear compositional structure. Photos by Oleg Stelmakh.
On Saturday, December 3, the opening ceremony of the Mosque Ar-Rahma took place in Kiev. It is the first mosque built in the capital city of Ukraine. The mosque is designed for 3,000 people; its area is 3200 square meters; the height of the minaret is 27 meters.
The mosque was constructed in the historic part of the city, on the top of Schekavitsa Mountain. In total, about 2 million Muslims are living in Ukraine, and 60,000 – in Kiev. The mosque was named Ar-Rahma meaning “Mercy”. Address: Kiev, Lukyanovskaya Str., 46.
