The Museum of Folk Architecture and Life “Open Air Museum in Pyrohiv” is an architectural and landscape complex of historical and ethnographic regions of Ukraine.
You can find it on the southern outskirts of Kyiv in Goloseyevsky area, near the village of Pyrohiv (Pirogov). 275 architectural exhibits of Ukrainian folk architecture of the 16th-20th centuries are presented on its territory (133,5 hectares). The following photos of some of the museum exhibits were taken by Alex Shvab in August 2014.

Castles of Zakarpattia region have a special place in the list of attractions of Ukraine. They were built at different times by different rulers and peoples. Scattered in time, the castles are united by a common geography and purpose.
Today, there are more than a dozen castles in the region. Let’s fly over the two of them – Mukachevo castle “Palanok” (in Mukachevo) and Nevitsky castle (12 km north-east of Uzhgorod).

Pripyat is a ghost town located in northern Ukraine, in Kiev region. It is standing on the banks of the Pripyat River, 5 km from the Chernobyl nuclear power plant, near the border with Belarus, at a distance of 94 km from Kiev.

The fall on the island of Khortytsia

Khortytsia is the largest island on the Dnieper River located within the limits of Zaporozhye city below the Dnieper Hydroelectric Station. It is a unique natural and historical complex. The island stretches from northwest to southeast, length – 12.5 km, width – 2.5 km on average.
In 2007, Khortytsia was called one of the “Seven Wonders of Ukraine”. It is a popular tourist destination. In 2010, the island was visited by more than 250 thousand people. Khortytsia on Google Maps. Photos by Denis Belitsky

Chernivtsi – an architectural jewel of western Ukraine

Chernivtsi is a city located in southwestern Ukraine, 40 km north of the border with Romania, on the right bank of the Prut River. The city is the historic center of Bukovina and, along with Lviv, is considered the cultural center of western Ukraine.

Kyiv cable railway – a unique transport system

For over 100 years the residents and visitors of Kyiv actively use the cable railway connecting Podil (a historic neighborhood of Ukrainian capital) with the Upper Town (the oldest part of the city).

In continuation of our flights over Ukrainian cities. This time, let’s go to Ternopil – the fourth largest city in Western Ukraine known for its architectural and cultural monuments.
The city lake is the main place of interest and decoration of the city. It is worth noting that lakes are located in the center of only two European cities. Also, Ternopil is very comfortable for foreign travelers.

Lviv is definitely one of the most picturesque cities in Ukraine. The historic center of the city has the status of the UNESCO World Heritage Site. Also, Lviv has the largest number of monuments in Ukraine.
