Kamyshev’s Oak. During the Second World War, Soviet troops forced the Seversky Donets River. August 17, 1943, artillery battery of Lieutenant Vladimir Kamyshev took up a position and opened fire on the Germans.
But the landscape was hilly hindering aimed fire. Kamyshev saw a lone oak with a dense crown standing not far from the positions of the battery. Together with the two soldiers, he quietly made his way to the oak tree and climbed up the trunk, and began to adjust the fire of his battery.
The Germans saw them and opened fire. One of the shells hit the trunk of a tree and Vladimir Kamyshev was mortally wounded. After the battle, the hero was taken to hospital where he died. The monument was erected in 1985.
