Health officials in Kyiv announced that the flu epidemic that has plagued the city for the past four weeks has ended. Officials said that from November 23-29 the number of flu patients in the capital city decreased significantly and is at the "nonepidemic level," though the epidemic for the rest of the country remains in effect. The Kyiv Mayor's Office decided to reopen kindergartens, high schools, and universities as of November 25 after having ordered them closed for about three weeks.

The number of deaths in Ukraine from flu viruses has risen to 315, with 16 passing away over the past 24 hours, the Health Ministry has reported.
Ukraine's flu epidemic began at the end of October and over 1.4 million have fallen ill. At least 78,000 people have been hospitalized and over 300 patients are still kept in intensive care.

A total of 81 people have died of influenza-like diseases in Ukraine, the country's chief sanitary doctor Oleksandr Bilovol said. Ukrainian Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko said on Tuesday 71 people have died of acute respiratory illness in the country. The health ministry said on Monday 255,000 flu cases had been reported in the country, with 15,000 receiving treatment in hospital. All education establishments in the capital, Kiev, were closed on Monday until further notice due to the flu pandemic. Wearing medical masks has been a must in all catering places, shops and social services facilities across Ukraine since Friday.

A/H1N1 (swine) influenza epidemic has started in Ukraine, the country's Health Minister Vasily Knyazevich told journalists. "We state by preliminary results that Ukraine has entered the world pandemic zone and A/H1N1 influenza epidemic is beginning in the country," the minister noted. He urged the Ukrainian population not to engaged in self-treatment and apply to doctors. The Ukrainian government has assigned $62.5 million for buying medicines, medical equipment and flu masks in connection with the A/H1N1 flu epidemic, Prime Minister Yulia Timoshenko said at the Ternopol meeting with Ukrainian western regions' heads.
