Spring in the Carpathian Mountains

Carpathians is a mountain system located in Central Europe, on the territory of the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Hungary, Poland, Ukraine, Romania, Serbia and partly in Austria. In Ukraine, the Carpathian Mountains cover about 80% of the Zakarpattia region.

This is the only region of Ukraine, which borders with Slovakia and Hungary. Resort resources of the region are mainly mineral water and climate. Zakarpattia region is an important area of tourism in Ukraine. This region is beautiful in all seasons. Photos by sav-in

The Ghost Valley is an area in the Crimea, the concentration of fantastically shaped rocks on the western slope of the southern ridge of Demerji massif (near Alushta).

Their shapes resemble mysterious statues of humans, animals, creatures from fairy tales, various objects, and depending on the time of day and lighting their shapes are changing.

Invasion of jellyfish in Balaclava

At the beginning of spring, in the Bay of Balaclava near Sevastopol, one could observe an unusual phenomenon – the entire water area of the bay was filled with jellyfish. Billions of jellyfish turned the waters of the bay in a solid white jelly.

Boats and yachts were among this mess, and jellyfish thrown out on the waterfront by waves squelched underfoot of strolling people.

Abnormally heavy snowfall in Kiev

In recent days, Kiev has experienced abnormal snowfall; tens of millions of tons of snow has fallen on the streets of the city. In this regard, a state of emergency is declared in Kiev. Military equipment is involved in the process of clearing the streets. March 25 is declared a day off.

More than 22,000 people and 5,000 pieces of equipment are involved in the liquidation of consequences of snowfall; thousands of people have been caught in snowdrift.

Park “Sofiyivka” was founded in 1796 by the owner of the town of Uman, Polish magnate Stanislav Potocki. The park was named in honor of his wife Sophia Witt-Potocki and presented to her in May 1802.

Today it is a popular holiday destination. Every year the park is visited by about 500,000 people. The total area of the park is about 180 hectares. “Sofiyivka” is a monument of world landscape gardening art of the late 18th – early 19th century. Photos by Vitaliy Milevich

Beautiful views of the winter Yalta

Yalta is definitely the most famous resort city in the former Soviet Union countries. The city is located on approximately the same geographical latitude with renowned Italian ports and resorts of Ravenna and Genoa.

The sun is shining here about 2250 hours a year – about the same as in Nice, Cannes, San Remo and other Mediterranean resorts.

Ai-Petri is an extinct volcano in the Crimean Mountains near Yalta. The height of the mountain is 1234 meters. The name of the peak “Ai-Petri” is of Greek origin and means the mountain of St. Peter.

Ai-Petri is the place with a maximum number of foggy days not only in Crimea, but in all of Ukraine. The record number of foggy days (215) was registered in 1970.

State Dendrology Park of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine “Alexandria” is located in Bila Tserkva. The park is a monument of landscape architecture. It was founded in 1793 by hetman Francis-Xavier Branitsky and named in honor of his wife Alexandra.

Bila Tserkva park is considered to be one of the best and largest in Europe. The plan was created by the French park designer Myuffo. It occupies the territory of over 200 hectares, has 25 water reservoirs and about 2,500 species of plants, including rare plants from South America, China and Japan. Photos by Roman Naumov
