Andrew’s Descent in Kiev is one of the oldest ways connecting the Upper Town, its central part, with the trade area Podil.
Today Andrew’s Descent is a street-museum. This is one of the major tourist attractions in the Ukrainian capital. Many famous figures of science and culture: scholars, writers, composers, painters, sculptors lived and worked here.

The new terminal “D” of “Borispol” airport

In late May, after three and a half years of construction, new terminal “D” of Ukraine’s main airport located in Boryspil was opened.
At the moment, this terminal is the largest in Ukraine. The total area is 107 thousand square meters, and now it can serve up to 15 million passengers a year, or three thousand passengers per hour. Photos by Press Service of the Ministry of Infrastructure of Ukraine.

The European Football Championship 2012 begins today. The championship is hosted by two countries: Poland and Ukraine. The opening ceremony will be held in Warsaw (Poland).
Tomorrow the first Ukrainian matches will be played: Germany Vs Portugal at the stadium “Arena Lviv” in the city of Lviv and Netherlands Vs Denmark at the stadium “Metalist” in Kharkov.

Life in Oleksandriya – a typical Ukrainian provincial town

Oleksandriya is a small town (about 90,000) in Kirovograd oblast of Ukraine. The town is located about 75 km northeast of Kirovograd, capital city of the region, almost in the center of Ukraine. There are two forests within the city limits with the total area of about 370 hectares.
Oleksandriya gave the world several famous people. The Hero of the Soviet Union Pyotr Koshevoy, cosmonaut Leonid Popov, a scholar of Slavic world Dmitry Chizhevsky were born here. Among the main places of interest of Oleksandriya is the local museum opened in June 1967.

Kharkov Tank Repair Plant specializes in the overhaul and modernization of T-64, T-72, and T-80 tanks and tank engines 5TDF, and GTD-1250. The plant also repairs tank sights, laser range finders, and a range of guided weapons.
By the time of the collapse of the Soviet Union the plant repaired about 60 tanks and 55 engines a month. Currently, the plant doesn’t have a lot of work and the area looks a bit abandoned. Photos by Pasha Itkin

Kharkiv (spelled Kharkov in Russian) is one of the largest cities in Ukraine, important cultural and educational center of the country. Interesting fact, it is the largest city in the world on the 50th latitude: it is larger than Krakov, Prague, Meinz, Ust-Kamenogorsk.
The city will host group stage matches of Netherlands, Denmark, Germany, and Portugal during the coming Euro 2012 on Metalist stadium renovated in 2009.

The 30th coastal artillery battery in Sevastopol

250-day defense of Sevastopol in 1941-1942 became one of the most heroic pages in the history of the Second World War. Defenders of the Black Sea Fleet’s main base delayed the plans of the German command to capture the Caucasus, seriously affecting the course of the war.
The 30th and 35th coastal artillery batteries played significant role in the defense of Sevastopol. They became the basis of artillery power of the city’s defenders. The 30th Battery was fighting to June 27, 1942.

Metalist – Euro 2012 stadium in Kharkov

The regional sports complex “Metalist” is a multifunctional stadium located in Kharkov. It is the central stadium of the city primarily used for football matches; the venue for home matches of FC “Metalist”.
December 5, 2009 the stadium was opened after renovation. Today the main football arena of Kharkov can accommodate more than 37 thousand people. The infrastructure of the stadium meets all the requirements of UEFA. Photos by Oleg Stelmakh
