Railways are still the most convenient way to travel in Ukraine.

Not a lot of flights are available, in spite of the fact that many cities have airports. The problem is that they were all built during the Soviet period, and need to be reconstructed. The cost of the tickets is also an issue.

Bus service is well developed, but because of the large size of the country, traveling by bus can be tedious and not safe, as the quality of roads is poor.

The landscapes of Korsun-Shevchenkovskiy Park

Korsun-Shevchenkovskiy Park is a beautiful monument of landscape architecture located about 150 kilometers from Kiev in Cherkassy oblast. This park is the part of Korsun-Shevchenkovskiy historical and cultural reserve, landscape art monument of national importance.

The park in the style of English landscape parks was founded in 1782. The park is situated on three islands and the right bank of the river Ros. Bridges connect the islands to each other and to the banks of the river. Photos by takie_tam

Swallow’s Nest (“Lastochkino Gnezdo” – Russian spelling) is a monument of architecture and history standing on the top of 40-meter Avrorin cliff (Ai-Todor cape, Gaspra village located near Yalta city).

The building resembles a medieval knight’s castle like the Belem Tower or Miramar Villa near Trieste. Swallow’s Nest has become a kind of emblem of the Southern coast of Crimea.

Navy Day is one of the most favorite holidays in Sevastopol. Thousands of people literally occupy every possible place to watch the water area of the bay, where the parade and show of naval forces take place.

This year’s celebration of Navy Day was held on July 29 and was joint. From 2011 the Ukrainian Navy Day is celebrated on the same date as the Russian Navy Day.

The hippie festival “Shipot”

Every year (July 1-10) the area near the waterfall Shipot (Volovets district of Zakarpattia region) becomes the place of festival “Shipot”. All kinds of informal people are going to the festival: punks, hippies, rastaman, representatives of other subcultures and, of course, ordinary tourists.

The first festival was held in 1993. The motto of “Shipot” is “Love, Peace & Wine!” The main day of the festival is the day of Ivan Kupala – July 7. Photos by Oleg Grigoryev

Chernaya (Black) River is one of the few rivers of the Crimea. The river flows along the bottom of a picturesque gorge in the vicinity of Sevastopol city.

Below, in the dense thickets of overgrown vegetation, it is not hot even in summer scorching heat. Pure water of the river gives the air its freshness and coolness. The relative proximity of the city makes this place quite crowded on weekends and holidays. However, on weekdays, there is almost no one here.

This church can be seen by anyone who is traveling by Yalta highway from Sevastopol to Yalta, or vice versa. Church of the Ascension is standing on the red rock at an altitude of 472 meters above sea level high above small town of Foros, which is why it is also called the Foros church.

Andrew’s Descent in Kiev is one of the oldest ways connecting the Upper Town, its central part, with the trade area Podil.

Today Andrew’s Descent is a street-museum. This is one of the major tourist attractions in the Ukrainian capital. Many famous figures of science and culture: scholars, writers, composers, painters, sculptors lived and worked here.
