A trip to the salt mines in Soledar

The complex of depleted salt mines of enterprise “Artemsol” is open to tourists. The mines are located in a small town of Soledar in Donetsk region. The first salt mine was opened in 1881.
After more than a hundred years, unique system of underground workings with a total length of over 200 km appeared. At a depth of 300 meters, you can find unique sanatorium “Salt Symphony” treating respiratory diseases.

Perhaps the most unusual church in Ukraine

“Natalievka” is the estate of sugar producer Pavel Ivanovich Kharitonenko founded in the 80s of the 19th century in Vladimirovka village of Kharkov region (about 80 km from Kharkov).
The manor house was destroyed during the Soviet times. The park of the estate with a total area of about 50 hectares is protected as a national monument of landscape architecture.

A unique piece of nature – Opuksky Nature Reserve – is situated at the southern end of the Kerch Peninsula in Crimea. This is one of the youngest nature reserves of Ukraine. It was founded in 1998 and combined more than twenty landscape and natural sites on the area of about 1,500 hectares.
One of the highest points of the Kerch peninsula – Opuk Mountain (184 meters above sea level) – is located here. Many species of animals listed in the Red Book of Ukraine are found in the reserve and coastal waters.

Celebration of the 230th anniversary of the Black Sea Fleet

May 12, 2013, the Black Sea Fleet of Russia celebrated its 230th birthday. The fleet was founded in 1783 after the annexation of Crimea to Russia. It was based in Akhtiar Bay, in the south-west coast of the Crimean peninsula. Later, the city of Sevastopol was founded there.
In Sevastopol, the main base of the Black Sea Fleets of Russia and Ukraine, a joint parade of warships was held. The celebration ended with fireworks. Here are some pictures of the parade taken by Petr Ushanov

In the summer, due to its location on the shores of the Black Sea and the Azov Sea, Kerch attracts tourists from the countries of the former Soviet Union.

The remains of ancient city-state Chersonese at night time

Chersonese was a city-state, founded by the ancient Greeks in the south-west coast of the Crimea. At present, the ruins of the city are located in Gagarin district of Sevastopol.
For two thousand years, Chersonese was a major political, economic and cultural center of the northern Black Sea region. During the years of Soviet power, Chersonese Historical and Archaeological Reserve became one of the largest archaeological centers.

Sudak – seaside resort city in Crimea, Ukraine
