Abandoned Moorish palace near Odessa

Petrovka village is located about 60 kilometers from Odessa. Middle of an ordinary village, you can suddenly see a beautiful abandoned palace built in the Moorish style.

All these incredible water colors, crazy salt columns and cosmic landscapes are abandoned fields for collecting salt located in the Crimea!
Back in Soviet times, these fields were used for mining salt for the needs of the chemical industry. The views here are fantastic – unique combination of bright red water and blue-white-black mud. Photos by Sergey Anashkevitch

Abandoned flight training center near Zaporozhye

Traveling from Dnepropetrovsk to Zaporozhye, it is hard not to pay attention to a complex of abandoned buildings and the old L-29 aircraft, placed at the control-point.
It is a flight training center named after Soviet pilot Alexander Pokryshkin. In Soviet times, it was a strong school, which trained combat pilots for three aviation regiments based in Zaporozhye. However, for more than ten years the place is deserted. Photos by sicheslavets

Anti-nuclear underground submarine base in Balaklava

Object 825 GTS (or K-825) is an underground submarine base in Balaklava (near Sevastopol, Crimea), a secret military installation built in 1953-1961 during the Cold War, located in Balaklava bay. Currently, the base is a museum.
The object is a construction that has anti-nuclear defense of the first category (protection against direct hit of 100 kt nuclear bomb), which includes combined underground water channel with a dry dock, repair shops, fuel storages, torpedo arsenal. The base is located in the mountain Tavros on both sides of which there are two exits. Photos by danlux

Abandoned kindergarten in the Chernobyl zone

Kopachi is an abandoned village, located about 4 km from Chernobyl nuclear power plant on the right bank of the Pripyat River, in Ivankovsky district of Kiev region. It was a booming village in 1980s. April 26, 1986, after the accident at the station, the village was badly contaminated.
The village, located in the 10-kilometer zone of the Chernobyl exclusion, was eliminated by complete destruction; the remains of it were covered with earth. At the moment the territory is not inhabited.

Picturesque abandoned quarry near Sevastopol

During your visit to the Crimea, you can go in the foothills or mountains, swim in the sea, but it is not so easy to find a place that is below sea level. Let’s look at one of the lowest points of the Crimea (-14 meters below sea level).
Kadykovsky abandoned quarry, rusty-orange pile rising high among the surrounding hills, is located in the outskirts of Sevastopol. The quarry is called by the name of the area – Kadykovka.

Post-apocalyptic views of abandoned opencast mine

Abandoned opencast brown coal mine Morozovskiy is located near the city of Oleksandriya (Kirovograd oblast). The enterprise is under liquidation, coal mining is not carried out for 5 years, despite the fact that the brown coal reserves are sufficient for at least another 20 years of active mining.

Abandoned Pripyat covered in snow

Pripyat was home for people working at one of the largest in Europe nuclear power plants – Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant. The city was built close to Kiev, the capital of Ukraine. The distance is about 100 km.
The population of the city was about 49,400 before the disaster (April 26, 1986). After the disaster Pripyat was abandoned, all the residents were evacuated. Today it attracts tourists and scientists from all over the world.

Abandoned storage of nuclear weapons Feodosia-13

At the end of 1950 according to a special decree of the Council of Ministers of the USSR it was decided to create special bases to store nuclear weapons. The main objectives were to assemble and store nuclear devices, replace the weapons with expiring warranty period, test electronic and mechanical components, and give nuclear weapons to the army for combat use.
One of such bases called Feodosia-13 was built in Kiziltashskaya Valley (near Sudak and Feodosia cities in the Crimea).
